Chairman of Ekiti State Football Association Oloworemo Oluwole has urged the Super Eagles to win the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, saying winning the AFCON will serve as compensation to Nigeria for missing the FIFA World Cup ticket.
Speaking in Fez , Morocco , Oloworemo said Nigerians are still sad over the world cup crises , making it imperative for the Eagles to bring the AFCON trophy back home which will bring joy and excitement to over 200,000 million Nigeria.
“Anything apart from the trophy will not redeem our image in international football and we deserve to be compensated”
The Ekiti FA boss is appealed to coach Eric Chelle to maintain his starting 11 as a win over Uganda will improve the country’s head to head record against the Cranes.
” I don’t think we should tinker our squad just because we have qualified for the knockout .A win today will improve our rating because out of 8 matches between us,we only won 2 and draw 2 which is shocking to me .We have started well winning two matches and we need to maintain these perfect run up to the final.Am happy the NFF is giving all the support they need to prosecute the AFCON and nothing but the trophy is expected from them.
Oluwole said the Ekiti state football Association under his leadership will hold series of activities in 2026.
This include the Ekiti Local League,Ekiti under 15 and 17 boys and girls league , Akin Oyebode Gold Cup and BAO Continuity Cup.
He commended the state government led by governor Oyebamiji for the ongoing Construction of 6 stadia in Ekiti which, he said, upon completion will improve football and sports in General in the fountain of knowledge state .
The projects are sited in Ado local Govement,Ilawe,local government,Irepodun local government,Efon Alaye local government,Aramoko and Ijero Local government.
“We are seeking for more enabling environment and once these projects are completed,we will not rely on the Kayode Oluyemi Stadium alone to achieve our objectives which is to discover talents and nurture them.
“It will further aid our school and Grassroots vision because we want to organize inter schools competition across Ekiti state .
