Students of the D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori-Ewekoro have staged a protest to demand an end to the persistent armed robbery attacks and growing insecurity affecting students across parts of Ogun State.
The protest surfaced following the recent killing of a student of the institution during an alleged armed robbery attack in Eruku.
The students called on the Ogun State Police Command, the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Eleweran, the Department of State Services, DSS, and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, ensure that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted, to strengthen security operations around the tertiary institutions and student communities.
The students also appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to treat the security of students as a matter of urgent public importance by working closely with security agencies, educational institutions, local governments, traditional rulers and host communities to prevent further attacks.
The protesters maintained that no student should lose his or her life in the pursuit of education, stressing that learning should not become a life-threatening venture.
They also pledged to remain peaceful, orderly and law-abiding while continuing to advocate justice for the slain student and improved security for all students across Ogun State.
Meanwhile, the Authorities of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Ogun State, have postponed examinations scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, and Wednesday, July 29, 2026, following the reported death of a student and the injury of another in a robbery incident at Eruku.
A statement by the Chairman of the Timetable, Examination and Academic Calendar Committee, Mr Gideon Adekunle, explained that the decision was intended to allow affected students time to recover emotionally from the incident and to honour the memory of the deceased.
Mr Adekunle noted that examinations would resume on Friday, July 31, 2026, in line with the existing timetable, while a new schedule for the postponed papers will be announced later.
