The resilient Enyimba squad suffered a 4-2 defeat against Katsina United during Matchday 8 of the Nigeria Premier Football League at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Friday, in a contest that exemplified why the People’s Elephant maintain their standing as champions in character.
The match began unfavorably. In the 6th minute, a simple back pass from Emeka Onyema escaped goalkeeper Dare Dede’s control and crossed the goal line — an own goal that provided the hosts with an early 1-0 advantage.

Just four minutes later, the visiting team came close to equalizing, though goalkeeper Francis Koroma made a crucial save against Idris Abubakar’s attempt from a distance.

The Changi Boys’ offensive intensity materialized in the 12th minute when Mubarak Sani struck a powerful shot to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Aba-based club entered halftime trailing by two goals and emerged from the dressing room as a transformed side. Despite Katsina extending their advantage to 3-0 in the 60th minute via Luis Dadong’s powerful header, Enyimba persisted in their efforts.
The comeback attempt was courageous and compelling. In the 67th minute, Michael Chidera capitalized on an excellent delivery from Obichere and finished clinically to reduce the deficit to 3-1, reigniting Enyimba’s aspirations. Nine minutes later, that aspiration transformed into genuine possibility — Egbe Charles out jumped his marker to convert a flick from Richard Ezinwa, narrowing the gap to 3-2.
With momentum shifting decisively in their favor and Katsina appearing vulnerable, Enyimba committed additional players forward in pursuit of an equalizer. This very determination, however, created defensive vulnerabilities that Katsina exploited ruthlessly — Umar Rabiu capitalizing on a counterattack in the 80th minute to establish a 4-2 scoreline.
When the final whistle sounded, the scoreline indicated 4-2, yet the narrative told a different account. Enyimba demonstrated exceptional character. The result was a defeat, certainly, but a courageous defeat that underscores the People’s Elephant’s capacity to score goals.
