
Chairman, Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye has revealed that two media partners are on pipeline to replace Startimes on Media broadcast.
Elegbeleye made this known on Wednesday while featuring in one of the Nigeria’s leading WhatsApp groups “Sports World Platform” hosted by Sunday Agunbiade, popularly known as Mr VAR .
The former Director General, National Sports Commission hinted that the league body is entering third season with Startimes on a N6bn broadcast deal but emphasized that the league body is open to working with other broadcast partners if they meet the required standards.
“This new season, we’re talking about broadcasting, we had StarTimes, but we may not likely go with StarTimes this time around. Most likely, we’re working on other options, so you guys should expect that.
“AfroSports is one of those we’re trying to talk to and see if the arrangements would suit our purpose of broadcasting.” Afrosports made presentations on our AGM held on Monday alongside GIMG but we may not start with Startimes this season. Said the Obafemi Awolowo University alumnus.
The 2025/26 season has been scheduled to kick off on August 22, with the opening fixtures already released.
Two of the match-day one fixtures will see reigning champions Remo Stars host last season’s runners-up Rivers United in Ikenne while Lekan Salami Stadium will play host to the five time league Champions Shooting Stars against Bayelsa United.
