The African Nations Championship match between Sudan and Nigeria played on Tuesday evening at the Amaan Stadium, Zanzibar City in Tanzania ended 4-0 in favour of Sudan.
Sudan took absolute control of the game with a 2-0 lead in the first half. Nigeria’s Leonard Ngenge made an own goal in the 25th minute while Walieldin Khidir converted a spot kick in the 44th minute.
In the second half, Sudan pressed for more goals as Tabanga Ahmed added the third in the 55th minute following an assist by Musa Hussein.Seven minutes later, Tabanga Ahmed, who was introduced in the second stanza scored another goal, making it a brace.
Nigeria struggled to find their footing but were unable to mount a significant comeback .
The match was part of the African Nations Championship Group D features which consist of Sudan, Nigeria, Senegal, and Congo.
The African Nations Championship is a biennial football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), featuring national teams consisting of players currently playing in their respective local leagues.
The tournament is being held in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, with the final match scheduled to take place at the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi on August 30, 2025.
