
The Home Economics Teachers Association of Nigeria (HETAN) has honoured Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, with a Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the growth of the education sector and overall development of the State’s economy.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Governor at the 51st HETAN Annual National Conference in Ibadan, on Thursday, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, highlighted the achievements of the present administration.
He described Governor Makinde as the “architect of modern Oyo State,” noting his commitment to prompt salary payments to civil and public servants on or before the 25th of every month, alongside the consistent payment of the 13th-month salary every December since the administration began.
Olayiwola further commended the Governor for prioritizing infrastructure development through road construction and maintenance across urban and rural communities, as well as ensuring improved security within the State.
Speaking on the conference, the Coordinator of the Planning Committee, Mr. Kolade Kehinde, said Oyo State is hosting the 51st Annual National Conference from Monday, August 19 to Friday, August 22 at Queen’s School, Apata, Ibadan.
With the theme “Home Economics: Potential for Fostering Human and Economic Development,” the conference attracted delegates from all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Mr. Kehinde emphasized the critical role of Home Economics in moral development, grooming students, and shaping responsible citizens and leaders. He expressed gratitude to the Oyo State Government for providing a conducive environment to ensure the success of the conference.
