The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Saki West Local Government Area, has strongly condemned the recent allegation raised by Hon. Shittu Ibrahim over the loan secured by His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, describing it as baseless, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to undermine the governor’s developmental strides.
In a statement jointly signed by party leaders, the PDP in Saki West reaffirmed its total support for Governor Makinde’s administration, noting that the loan in question was a strategic and visionary move to accelerate infrastructural renewal, economic growth, and social welfare across Oyo State.
Governor Makinde’s Proven Achievements
The statement highlighted Governor Makinde’s record of achievements, which include:
Infrastructure Renewal: Completion and ongoing works on critical roads such as the Oyo–Iseyin Road, Iseyin–Ogbomoso Road, Saki–Ogboro Road, and the dualisation of the Saki Township Road.
Economic Growth: Policies that have stimulated investment, improved ease of doing business, and created opportunities for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Social Welfare & Human Capital Development: Significant interventions in education, healthcare, and youth empowerment that continue to uplift citizens’ living standards.
According to the PDP leaders, these achievements are tangible evidence that Governor Makinde’s administration is people-focused and prudent in resource management.
On the Conduct of Hon. Shittu Ibrahim
While recognizing the role of opposition lawmakers in ensuring checks and balances, the party expressed disappointment in Hon. Shittu Ibrahim’s pattern of absenteeism and poor legislative performance.
The statement noted that Hon. Shittu’s attendance at plenary sessions has been alarmingly low—reportedly less than 20%—making him one of the least active members of the 10th Assembly. His absence was also recorded during critical legislative engagements such as budget presentations, oversight functions, and the governor’s state addresses.
Beyond absenteeism, the PDP leaders emphasized that Hon. Shittu has developed a trend of attacking and bullying the state government at every opportunity, even during his recent so-called empowerment programme, where he used the platform to malign the administration. They stressed that such actions are not new, nor are they popular in the eyes of the people, who clearly recognize the governor’s genuine efforts at transforming the state.
“This lack of commitment to legislative duties, coupled with his consistent attempts to discredit the government, makes his outburst on the loan both hypocritical and unconvincing,” the statement read.
Commendation of Governor Makinde
The PDP Saki West leadership commended Governor Makinde for demonstrating courage, foresight, and responsibility in securing the loan facility to fund priority projects. They emphasized that the facility is not for frivolous spending but rather a tool for expanding infrastructure, boosting economic development, and securing a brighter future for Oyo State.
Call for Unity
The statement called on all PDP members, stakeholders, and the good people of Oyo State to stand united in support of the governor’s vision.
“We must not allow baseless allegations to derail the steady progress our state is making. Governor Makinde has shown time and again that he is committed to the prosperity of Oyo State, and we, as a party, will continue to support his mission to develop our state.”
