Former Kaduna Central Lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has described the recent arrest of the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore as unconscionable .
The former Senator made his position known on the reported assault on the human rights activist via his X handle ( formerly Twitter).
His statement surfaces almost 24 hours after reports emerged that Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), was allegedly assaulted in police custody in Abuja, where he is being detained over a petition reportedly filed by the Inspector-General of Police.

Senator Sani opined that Sowore’s right to freedom of speech and peaceful protest must be respected as guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution.
Sani explained that those whose opinions are in contrary with Sowore’s views need to engage him with ” alternative facts” rather than constant harassments
“The incessant arrest and of Sowore is unconscionable. His right to freedom of speech and protest should be respected in line with the constitution of our country,” Sani wrote.
“If there is anything he says that is not true, it should be countered with alternative facts rather than resort to arrests. Everyone knows Sowore as a non-partisan and non-aligned vanguard, who spares no one when it comes to expression of his views or position”
