The Federal Government has intensified efforts to strengthen community-driven security architecture following a strategic engagement between the Presidential Community Engagement Team and the Ministry of Defence in Abuja.
The meeting, led by Senior Special Assistants on Community Engagement from the North West, North Central, South West and South East zones, focused on reinforcing collaboration aimed at peacebuilding and regional stability.
The delegation held extensive discussions with the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd.), alongside senior defence officials.
Both sides underscored the central role of community engagement in effective intelligence gathering, trust-building and the successful communication of security interventions.
Emphasis was placed on integrating grassroots perspectives into national security planning to address local threats more proactively.
Key resolutions from the meeting include the establishment of a joint working team, the organisation of regional security summits, and the creation of direct communication channels between communities and security agencies. The initiatives are designed to ensure rapid response to citizens’ concerns and foster mutual confidence.
The engagement also highlighted the importance of youth-focused programmes as a long-term strategy to tackle the root causes of insecurity, including unemployment and social exclusion.
The renewed collaboration signals the Federal Government’s commitment to a people-centred security approach, leveraging community partnerships as a critical pillar in safeguarding lives and property across the country.
