The owner of Remo Stars Football Club, Ikenne, Ogun State, Kunle Soname , has lamented the financial challenge facing Nigerian football, stating that it would be difficult for the country’s clubs to surpass their counterparts at the continental level.

Soname in an interview said the financial disparity between the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and other leagues in the continent is a significant obstacle.
“We can’t compete in continental football yet. There is no enough money in the game in our country to compete with those guys . Players in the NPFL earn between #500,000 to #800,000 monthly while players in other leagues can earn up to $5,000”.
He said further that the significant difference in remuneration puts Nigerian teams at a disadvantage, making it challenging for them to attract and retain top players .
” Top players do leave the League every year for foreign clubs, this affects the game and leagues. Next season, you may not see the majority of the top players again, those guys will buy them, how do we now compete with them “
