In a bid to improving the security architecture across Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde on Thursdays announced retired Major-General Lukman Tokunbo Omoniyi as his Executive Adviser on Security Coordination.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was announced through a letter issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.
By bringing in a former top-ranking military officer, the Makinde led administration signalled its resolve to adopt a more structured and professional approach to managing security operations in the state. The governor called on Omoniyi to ensure effective coordination of activities of the security agencies with a view to ensuring a safer environment for residents in all parts of Oyo State.

Major-General Omoniyi (rtd) brings decades of military experience to the role, having served in key command, staff and instructional capacities within the Nigerian Army.
Beyond his military career, he is also distinguished academically. He holds two postgraduate degrees from the University of Ibadan—an MSc in Humanitarian and Refugee Studies and another in Strategic Studies—and is currently completing a PhD in Peace, Security and Humanitarian Studies at the same institution.
The appointment underscores the state government’s focus on leveraging expertise and experience to address evolving security challenges and maintain peace and stability in Oyo State.
