The Outgoing Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Sheikh Abdullahi Saleh Usman, says his decision to step down was not connected to any disagreement with the Commission nor the Federal Government.
In a statement signed by the outgoing chairman and made available to journalists on Tuesday, indicated that the resignation takes effect on Monday, February 9, 2026.
According to the statement, the former NAHCON chairman has formally communicated his resignation in writing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in line with Section 3(6) of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2006.


Professor Usman emphasized that his decision to step down was not connected to any disagreement or dissatisfaction with the Commission, the Federal Government, or NAHCON’s statutory mandate. He described the move as a personal choice taken in good conscience and with respect for the responsibilities of public office.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the opportunity accorded him to serve, describing his appointment as an honour and a privilege. He also acknowledged the numerous support of the Vice President , Kashim Shettima.
The outgoing chairman further commended members of the NAHCON Board, management, and staff for their professionalism and dedication, as well as key stakeholders including State Pilgrims Welfare Agencies, licensed tour operators, aviation and service providers, and Saudi Arabian authorities for their collaboration in improving Nigeria’s Hajj operations.
As he exits office, Professor Usman prayed for the continued success of NAHCON, the incoming leadership, and Nigerian pilgrims, asking Allah (SWT) to accept the efforts made during his tenure and to grant future pilgrims a Hajj Mabrur.
