
The Nigeria Olympians Association ( NOA) has recognized past Olympians and distinguished individuals for their contributions to sports development in Nigeria.
The award ceremony was part of the event that took center stage at the Association’s third National Convention held in Abuja with the theme ” The Labours of Our Heroes Past “
The summit remains a forum for shaping the future of sports in Nigeria and also recognize exceptional dedication to the Olympic spirit, National service, and athlete welfare.
Among the recognized Olympians were former Super Eagles coach and 1988 Olympian Augustine Eguavoen, ex-international striker Samson Siasia, Olympic sprint medalist Deji Aliu (1996, 2000, 2004), and veteran Henry Nwosu, who participated in the 1980 and 1988 Games. Other awardees included celebrated long jumper Yusuf Alli (1984, 1988), Armelia Edet (1972), sprinter Samson Oyeledun (1980, 1984), boxer and 1972 medalist Isaac Ikuohria, handball player Mary Mkpolulu (1992), and weightlifter Cosmos Sampson Idioh (1980).
The Association also honored key figures whose contributions have greatly enhanced athlete welfare and advanced the Olympic movement.
Notable honorees included Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR; veteran journalist and publisher of Sports Village Square Kunle Solaja; and Larry Izamoje, Chairman of BRILA Communications PLC.
Speaking at the event, NOA President and former basketball Olympian, Olumide Oyedeji, said the need to honour those who have contributed to sports development in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized.
The three day event ,which commenced on Wednesday,23rd July featured fitness session for the Olympians, Congress , visit to African International College, Medical checkup, dinner among others.
