The Nigerian Railway Corporation has temporarily suspended train operations on the Abuja-Kaduna route due to a recent derailment incident.
Speaking on the incident, NRC Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, said a thorough investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the derailment.
He added that Technical staff from NRC and the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau are working together to investigate the incident.
Accordingly to him, the incident resulted in minor injuries to six passengers, and there were no fatalities. “The NRC has initiated refunds for all passengers who were onboard, although the exact number of passengers is yet to be verified”.
The NRC and NSIB will collaborate to identify the cause of the derailment and implement necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Train operations on the Abuja-Kaduna route will resume once the investigation is complete and safety is assured.
