
urges more Citizens Participation in Civic Responsibilities
The Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ) , Oyo State Council, has inaugurated a five – man electoral / screening committee for the upcoming NUJ election in the state and 2025 press week committee, headed by Alhaji Ismail Fasasi of the Information Chapel and Mr.Kemi Olaitan, respectively.
In a communique issued by the council at the end of its monthly congress held on Wednesday at the NUJ Press Center , Iyaganju, Ibadan , the union called on citizens of the country to be more proactive to their civic responsibilities as the 2027 General Elections draw near .

The congress urged eligible voters to take advantage of the Continuous Voter Registration ( CVR) exercise to register or update their details before the deadline.
The union also commended the Independent Electoral Commission ( INEC) and Security agencies for maintaining peace during the Ibadan North By-election where Hon Fola Oyekunle of the.Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) won the election . The congress thereafter frown at the low voter turn out .
The NUJ expressed regret over the recent fire incidents at Fresh FM, Ibadan, and Ajayi Crowther FM, Oyo, and commiserated with the management of the affected media houses. The union appreciated stakeholders who supported Fresh FM during the crisis.
The council commended the Oyo State Government led by Engr.Seyi Makinde for its infrastructural development efforts.However , the union urged the government to extend these efforts to less prominent cities across Oyo state .
The union congratulated Senator Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja on his elevation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, describing his nomination as a fitting choice. The NUJ prayed for his successful reign and expressed hope that he would bring development to Ibadanland, Oyo State, and Nigeria.
The NUJ also congratulated Mr. Seye Ojo on his appointment as a member of the National Trustee of the NUJ, following his nomination by the NUJ President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya. The congress expressed confidence in Mr. Ojo’s ability to carry out his duties efficiently.
