
Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has emphasized the need to prioritize competence over loyalty while shuffling for people to man leadership positions.
Makinde made this known at the 12th Edition of the Omituntun Annual Ramadan Public Lecture held on Thursday at the Ibadan North Local Government Secretariat Car park with the theme ” Contentment”

The governor in his usual character gifted SUV car to the guest lecturer, Sheikh Jamiu Ami Olohun while seven new buses were donated to mosques across the geopolitical zones of the state.

The gestures according to the governor not meant for political favours but faith-based cohesion and civic solidarity.

Speaking further on his possible successor come 2027 , Governor Makinde opined that appointment of leaders should not be based on allegiance to political patrons but loyalty to the public.
Enumerating the achievements of his administration, the governor reiterated his commitment to settling all pension backlogs before his tenure ends in 2027.
He also celebrated infrastructural milestones, including the upgrade of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport to an international facility, positioning the state as a regional hub ahead of the 2026 Hajj operation.
