The Super Falcons of Nigeria on Saturday secured its 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title following a thrilling 3-2 victory over hosts, Morocco in the final match played at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
Nigeria demonstrated remarkable resilience as the team came back from two-goal down to lift the trophy.
Morocco dominated the early stages of the match, with Captain Ghizlane Chebbak scoring in the 12th minute and Sanaa Mssoudy added the second goal in the 23rd minute , leaving Nigeria trailing by two goals at halftime.
Esther Okoronkwo converted a penalty in the 64th minute , marking the beginning of a dramatic come back for Nigeria .
Nigeria achieved a remarkable turnaround in the 71 minute as Esther Okoronkwo’s powerful run into the box created an opportunity for Folashade Ijamilusi to put the match at 2-2.
Nigeria pressed for the winning goal, which materialized in the 88th minute, courtesy of Jennifer Echegini’s decisive strike.
The final whistle was music to the Super Falcons’ ears, as they celebrated a hard-fought triumph that proved their mettle and cemented their status as champions.

Ace forward, Rasheedat Ajibade was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament for her consistent and inspirational performances while Chiamaka Nnadozie won the Best Goalkeeper award, conceding just two goals in open play and making crucial saves throughout the tournament.
Ghizlane Chebbak of Morocco won Golden Boot with five goals, including a crucial early strike in the final against Nigeria.
