

President Bola Tinubu on Monday received the women’s national basketball team, D’ Tigress that emerged victorious at the AfroBasket championship held in Abidjan , Ivory coast .
The president announced a cash reward of $100,000 to each player, luxury apartments, and the prestigious National award ( OON).
President Bola Tinubu while speaking at the State House, lauded D’Tigress for their outstanding achievement, citing their courage, discipline, and dedication as inspiring attributes that position them as role models for Nigeria’s youth.
Represented at the event by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima,the President emphasized that their success not only brings national pride but also showcases the country’s excellence to the world.
The Federal Government’s gesture to D’Tigress and Super Falcons for their WAFCON victory shows the consistency of the administration’s dedication to acknowledging and celebrating achievements in Nigerian sports, reinforcing the value placed on national pride and excellence .

D’Tigress clinched their seventh AfroBasket title and fifth consecutive championship, defeating Mali 78-64 in the final. This impressive win cements their status as the dominant force in African women’s basketball, igniting widespread national pride and jubilation.
The 2025 AfroBasket Women was the 29th edition of the biennial tournament organized by FIBA Africa.
