
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu , has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Former President, Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a patriot, statesman, and soldier whose legacy of service and sacrifice helped shape modern Nigeria.
Tinubu in a statement on Sunday by his Special Adviser on information and strategy Bayo Onanuga directed the Vice President, Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria.
Former President, Muhammadu Buhari, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London at the age of 82, after a prolonged illness.

As a mark of respect for the departed leader, President Tinubu has ordered all national flags to be flown at half-staff for seven days. An emergency session of the Federal Executive Council will be held on Tuesday, July 15, solely in Buhari’s honor.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to reflect on Buhari’s legacy, saying he inspired generations to serve with courage, conviction, and selflessness.
Buhari served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023 and previously as military Head of State from 1984 to 1985. His presidency was marked by a strong emphasis on discipline, accountability, and national development.
