President Bola Tinubu has sworn -in Tunji Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police.
The ceremony was held at the Council Chamber shortly before the start of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday. Disu, who had been steering the affairs of the police in an acting capacity since February 25, 2026, took the oath of office in the presence of top government officials and close associates.

At the same event, the President also administered the oath to six newly appointed commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission and two members of the Federal Civil Service Commission, further strengthening key federal institutions.

Among dignitaries present were Vice President Kashim Shettima; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Esther Walson-Jack.
Disu’s elevation follows the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun. His appointment had earlier received the endorsement of the Nigeria Police Council, clearing the path for his confirmation.

Before this development, Disu served as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos. He also previously led the Lagos Rapid Response Squad. Now fully confirmed, he assumes the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force with a stated commitment to professional, accountable, and modern policing. The FEC meeting commenced immediately after the swearing-in ceremony.
