
The Provost of Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, has reaffirmed her commitment to students’ welfare and well-being with the commissioning of solar-powered lights at strategic locations within the institution.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held on Wednesday at the College premises, Dr. Owolabi said the project forms part of the management’s ongoing efforts to provide a conducive learning environment and enhance the safety and comfort of students on campus.

She noted that the installation of the solar lights aligns with the Light-Up Oyo Initiative of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, aimed at improving access to sustainable lighting across the state.
According to the Provost, the solar lighting project will significantly improve visibility within the College environment, particularly at night, while supporting teaching, learning, and other academic activities.

Dr. Owolabi emphasized that students’ welfare remains a top priority of the institution’s management, adding that the College will continue to initiate projects and programmes geared towards improving the learning experience and overall development of students.
She further stated that the project reflects the College’s commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions while addressing its lighting needs.
The Provost urged students to make proper use of the facilities and protect them from vandalism, stressing that collective responsibility is essential for the preservation of public infrastructure.
Dr. Owolabi also appreciated the support and cooperation of the management team, staff members, and students whose contributions made the project a reality.
Speaking on behalf of the students, the Students’ Union President, Mr. Iyiola Olamilekan, expressed delight over the installation of the solar lights, describing the initiative as timely and beneficial.
He noted that the project would improve security and facilitate easier movement within the campus at night.
The commissioning of the solar-powered lights is one of several initiatives undertaken by the management of Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery to improve infrastructure and promote a conducive atmosphere for teaching, learning, and community living within the institution.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Provost, Mrs. Iyabo Adeleke; the Registrar, Mr. Raji Tirimisiyu; the Bursar and Librarian, Mr. Iseoluwa Adedokun and Mrs. Grace Adewusi; the Director of Works, Engr. Adebowale Olawoyin; and other principal officers of the College.
