The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has reviewed fines for various traffic offenses, with the aim of promoting road safety and reducing accidents.
The Chairman of OYRTMA, Maj. Adekoya Adesagba (rtd), disclosed this during a meeting with zonal commanders held recently at the agency’s secretariat in Ibadan.
According to Adesagba, the essence of OYRTMA is not to generate internal revenue, but to safeguard the lives and property of the people across Oyo State and ensure smooth traffic flow. He listed some of the new fines, including:

- Driving an unlicensed motorcycle/tricycle: N25,000
- Not painting a commercial motorcycle/tricycle in approved colors: N20,000 (first offender) and N30,000 (subsequent offender)
- Driving in a prohibited direction: N100,000 (first offender) and N200,000 (subsequent offender)
- Failure to park at designated motor parks: N20,000 (first offender) and N30,000 (subsequent offender)
Adesagba emphasized that the new fines are designed to deter offenders from repeating their mistakes. He also warned officers against collecting bribes or misbehaving on the job, stating that anyone caught would face disciplinary action, including demotion.
In a gesture of appreciation for their contributions to road safety awareness, the Chairman appointed Alhaji Abolade Salami and Mr. Babatunde Hamzat, presenters of “Agbami Oselu” on a local broadcasting outfit in Ibadan, as OYRTMA marshals.
Following their appointment, Alhaji Abolade Salam and Mr. Babatunde Hamzat paid a courtesy visit to the agency, where they were warmly received by Adesagba and other top officials.
Alhaji Abolade Salam expressed gratitude, saying, “This appointment is a dream come true. I’m thrilled to serve my state in this capacity.” Mr. Babatunde Hamzat commended the chairman’s leadership and pledged to support OYRTMA’s mission.
Adesagba commended the Oyo State government for its support and commitment to road safety.
The ceremony was attended by top officials, including General Manager Commander Ayoade Adeoye, Director of Administrative and Supplies Mr. A. Jimoh, Director of Accounts and Finance Mrs. Dore, Kehinde and State Commander Adesina Olamide and others.
