

The Director General, World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, says President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform is gradually yielding positive results, describing them as a step “in the right direction”.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday, Okonjo-Iweala noted that Tinubu deserved comendation for his efforts so far .
She harped on the need for the President Tinubu’s led administration to prioritise measures that would stimulate growth.
Okonjo-Iweala, who was at the villa to brief President Tinubu on the Women Exporters Fund for 146 Nigerian businesswomen, advocates robust social safety measures to cushion the effects of ongoing reforms on Nigerians.
The visit comes just weeks before the end of her first term as WTO chief on August 31, 2025, and the start of her second term on September 1, 2025.
Okonjo-Iweala in 2021 became the first African and first woman to head the 164-member global trade body.
