Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the increase of monthly allowance for Corps Members serving in the state from ₦4,000 to ₦50,000.
The increment was meant to complement the Federal Government’s new ₦77,000 NYSC allowance, which aligns with Governor Otti’s agenda to empower youths and strengthen public service delivery
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor , Njoku Ukoha, the new payment structure introduces a ₦20,000 base allowance for all corps members in Abia. Those posted to state government establishments will receive an additional ₦10,000, while corps members serving in health and education sectors are to earn an extra ₦30,000 monthly.

“This is the first major adjustment in 27 years, reflecting Governor Otti’s commitment to youth empowerment and workforce development,” the statement read.
He added that the administration has consistently supported corps members through initiatives such as the renovation of the NYSC Orientation Camp in Bende Local Government Area, road improvements, upgraded power supply, and enhanced camp facilities — even though the camp is federally owned.
The statement further noted that Otti’s government recently implemented the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for health workers, ensuring parity with federal pay standards. About 35% of the state’s annual budget is reportedly devoted to healthcare and education — described as the core pillars of human capital development.
Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making public service more rewarding and encouraging young professionals to contribute to Abia’s progress.
“Abia is serious about empowering youth, rewarding excellence, and building a future where service is valued,” Otti said.
With this approval, Abia State now stands among the highest-paying states for corps members in Nigeria.
