The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has officially declared Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner of the Osun State governorship election.
INEC Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Oye Ekiti , Ekiti State, declared the incumbent governor of the state the winner of the election on Sunday morning, August 16.
The election that witnessed a large turnout of voters was conducted on Saturday, August 15, 2026 .
Adeleke won nineteen(19) local government areas, while his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), won eleven (11) local government areas.
Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) emerged a distant third.
Total of the announced results shows that Mr Adeleke has a total of 511,067 votes while Oyebamiji has 444,815 votes, a difference of 66,256 votes.
It would be recalled that INEC promised total commitment to transparency and credible poll ahead of the election. However , the outcome of the election gives the masses hope that the people’s vote could count during elections, and perhaps in the 2027 general elections .
