The Maiden Edition of WABKEM Under 15 Invitational Tournament , sponsored by the Executive Chairman , Atiba Local Government, Hon. Wahab Waliu came to an end on Sunday.
D Way Up Football Club , Oyo emerged champions with a 1-0 victory over WABKEM Football Club at the final match decided at Durbar Stadium , Oyo .
Coach Adedayo Owoade tutored side got the only goal in the second half of the thrilling encounter.
In a chat with the sponsor , Hon . Wahab Waliu, popularly known as WABKEM, said the invitational tournament was designed to tap talents at the grassroots with a view to seeing them representing Oyo state at National championships.
Represented at the final by Comrade Bode Oyeniran , the Atiba Council Boss, opined that the finalists lived up to expectations .He encouraged all the teams that participated in the tournament not relent but intensify efforts on trainings to achieve greatness.
He expressed optimism that new innovations will be introduced into the tournament in the next edition , while invitation will be extended to teams in the neighbouring towns .
He speaks further ” Our intention is to catch them young so that they can be able to meet up with their counterparts at state level”
” The game is encouraging, the players were disciplined and their coaches have done good jobs”
” By God’s grace, in the next edition, we will invite teams from Iseyin , Ogbomosho to come around, mix together and display their talents”
Speaking on behalf of the Organizers, Coach Adedayo Owoade, who is also the Chief Coach of D WAY UP FC , lauded the donor, Hon Wahab for his passion for sport development, particularly football.
He revealed that the invitational tournament featured eight teams , and commenced from the knock out stage.
Coach Owoade also appreciated the teams who took part in the tournament, coaches and other relevant stakeholders for their support in making the invitation tourney memorable.
The champions went home with cash prize , medals and trophy, while second and third positions received Cash Prizes and Medals .
Cash Prizes were also given to the referees and distinguished individuals.
