as Club set for Kastina United encounter Today
Enyimba Head Coach, Emmanuel Deutsch has urged his players to maintain their focus and remain grounded as the nine-time Nigerian champions prepare to face Katsina United in a crucial Matchday Eight fixture of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season on Friday.

The encounter is scheduled for October 9, 2026, at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina, with kick-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Nigerian time.

The Aba Elephants travel to Katsina seeking a third consecutive league victory after recovering from a difficult start to the campaign, with Deutsch insisting that his side must not allow recent results to influence their approach to the contest.

“We will not be carried away because of results from our past three matches. We will take it one game at a time, as it comes,” Deutsch said ahead of the encounter.
“We will not be carried away because the league is a marathon. We will see what Friday brings. We are ready for the match tomorrow.”
Enyimba’s recent resurgence has lifted expectations after a challenging opening to the season. Following a 0–0 draw against Kano Pillars, the Aba giants secured a 4–2 victory over Shooting Stars before defeating Plateau United 2–0 to register successive league wins.
Those results have strengthened the team’s prospects of climbing the standings, although the trip to Katsina presents another test of their consistency.
Enyimba occupy 15th position with seven points from seven matches, having recorded two wins, one draw and four defeats. They have scored nine goals and conceded 10, underlining the need to maintain their attacking momentum while tightening up defensively.
Meanwhile, Katsina United occupy 11th position with nine points from seven matches. The hosts have registered two wins, three draws and two defeats, scoring six goals and conceding nine.
Their recent results have been mixed, with victories over Niger Tornadoes and Doma United accompanied by defeats to Shooting Stars and draws against Rivers United and Inter Lagos.
The four-point difference in their recent performances across the last few rounds, alongside Enyimba’s consecutive victories, adds an intriguing dimension to Friday’s contest. However, Katsina United will look to exploit home advantage against an Enyimba side still attempting to establish consistency.
Beyond the tactical demands of the fixture, Deutsch has stressed the importance of professionalism and mental discipline, urging his players to avoid distractions and remain committed to their responsibilities.
“Challenges are normal. But if you let the distractions carry you away, that means you’re not a professional,” the Enyimba coach said.
“You should leave everything behind and focus on the job. When you focus on your duty, you plan and you see results.”
The message reflects Deutsch’s determination to keep his squad focused on the immediate challenge rather than become carried away by their improved results.
For Enyimba, victory in Katsina would extend their winning run to three league matches and provide further momentum in their bid to move up the table. Katsina United, on the other hand, will be eager to secure maximum points at home and improve their position.
With both teams seeking valuable points at different stages of their campaigns, Enyimba’s ability to sustain their recent improvement will be tested against a Katsina United side determined to make home advantage count.
