NPFL: Makinde Cheers 3SC To Victory As Rangers Emerged Champions

Enugu Rangers have emerged champions of the Nigeria Premier football league ( NPFL) 2023 / 2024 season following their 2-1 victory against Gombe United on Sunday.

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan also ended the season on a victorious note after beating hard fighting Sporting Lagos FC 1-0 at the Lekan Salami Stadium , Ibadan .

In the match day 38 fixture, watched by a large crowd, including the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde , saw the Oluyole Warriors got the only goal of the game, eight minutes to the end of the first half, through Christian Pyagbara.

The prolific scorer converted a cross from right back, Gali Falke to increase his goal to ten this season.

Although the win was not enough to earn the Ibadan soccer lords continental ticket, having finished fourth on the log with 62 points, just a point short of third placed Enyimba FC of Aba, who finished with 64 points after beating Plateau United 2-0 in Aba.

In Ikenne, Remo Stars defeated visiting Katsina 2-1. Super Eagles defender Ismail Sadiq opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Dayo Ojo made it 2 -0 in the 30th minute while Michael Ibe reduced the deficit for the away side.

Bayelsa United stunned host Bendel Insurance 0-2 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

Ekerison Okorie scored the opening goal in the 4th minute before Tekena Garando added the second goal in the 31st minute

Kwara United walloped Heartland 4-0 with goals from Wasiu Alalade 5’, Emmanuel Ogbole 24’, Mohammed Alao 64’, Godwin Oshagbemi 90’.

In Kaduna, Niger Tornadoes defeated Sunshine Stars 2-1, Bashir Usman scored the opening goal for the host in the 35th minute and Clinton Jephta added the second goal 66th minute while Lucky Nwafor scored Sunshine Stars’ lone goal in the 76th minute.

Doma United , Sporting Lagos , Heartland and Gombe were relegated to the NNL . While El-Kanemi Warriors, Ikorodu City and Nasarawa United are to compete in the NPFL next season.
