
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP during the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi has challenged government at all levels to address the prevalent sufferings, hunger and deprivation facing Nigerians.
Mr. Obi gave the challenge in Ibadan while handing over the Obidient Movement Ramadan Feeding Programme food packages for Iftar for Muslims at OTM Central Mosque, Iwo Road, Ibadan.
Represented by the South West leaders of the Obidient Movement, Comrade Lanre Fadahunsi and Chief Amitolu Shittu, Mr. Obi reiterated the need for leaders to prioritize the welfare and well being of the masses for them to live comfortable life.
According to him, socio-economic challenges confronting Nigerians are not discriminatory against anyone based on religion, tribal groupings or geographical locations.
“Leaders must put an end to politics of deception, campaign of calumny and pushing sentimental and negative narratives to deceive Nigerians” he stated.
“Whether Christians or Muslims, hunger, unemployment and security challenges, homelessness do not discriminate; Nigeria is a country of one, let us be united to address all the problems”, Obi emphasized.
The Labour Party leader emphasized that Nigerians deserve good life such as decent living conditions, affordable and accessible food, hence it is imperative to dispense dividends of democracy and support the people.
Comrade Lanre Fadahunsi explained that the Obidient Movement Ramadan Feeding Programme was held in Osogbo, Osun State prior to Ibadan, Oyo State and that the event was simultaneously being coordinated in Lagos and Ogun States by the Spokesperson for Peter Obi and leader of the Movement, Dr Yunusa Tanko to capture the South West geo-political zone.
He said the Iftar meals were distributed to the beneficiaries in orderly manner, in line with Islamic injunctions.
In his remarks, another leader of the Obidient Movement, Chief Amitolu Shittu prayed Allah to always support the donor, Mr. Obi and enrich his purse to do more for humanity.
Chief Shittu who said his presence was in solidarity with the Worldwide leader of the Obidient Movement, Dr Yunusa Tanko, pointed out that the Iftar was to show unity in the blessed month of Ramadan, as exemplified by Mr. Obi who was in many Mosques in the North with Muslims for breaking of fast.
