The Oyo State Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, has flagged off the planting of about 20,000 tree seedlings to replace trees affected by the installation of a 33KV industrial line from Adebayo to the Mamu end of Gambari Forest Reserve, along the Ibadan Ijebu Ode Road.
The exercise was flagged off by the Coordinating Director of the Ministry, Dr. Mrs. Adesina Evelyn Olufunmilayo, on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto.
In his comments,the Honourable Commissioner disclosed that approximately 9,827 trees were affected by the project, noting that the State Government was implementing its “Cut One, Plant Two” policy, which provides for the planting of about 20,000 seedlings, predominantly indigenous species, to restore affected forest resources and biodiversity, mitigate climate change and promote environmental sustainability while maintaining infrastructural development for emerging communities in the state.
The Honourable Commissioner stated that the tree planting initiative was facilitated by Crystalighening Power Solutions Limited through Environmental Managers consult, stressing that the protection and restoration of the environment remained a collective responsibility.
He appreciated the company for its contribution towards restoring the affected forest resources and supporting the State Government’s commitment to sustainable environmental management.
Hon. Aderinto further used the medium to commend the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, for his commitment, leadership and passion towards climate governance and environmental sustainability in the State.
