Oyo Muslim Community Pledges Continuous Collaboration With Nigerian Correctional Service

The Muslim Community of Oyo State, MUSCOYS has reaffirmed its unrelenting readiness to collaborate with the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, Oyo State Command, in alignment with the Correctional Service Act, 2019.
The Chairman, MUSCOYS, Alhaji Kunle Sanni made the pledge while leading the delegation, comprising the leadership of Muslim Community of Oyo State on a courtesy visit to welcome the State Controller, NCoS, Mr. Babafemi Jayeoba to the Pace-Setter State.
Alhaji Sanni, represented by the MUSCOYS Vice Chairman, Oke-Ogun Zone 1, Barrister Tajudeen Adeniji, reiterated that the Community would continue to synergize with the NCoS to ease its statutory role of rehabilitating and reintegrating inmates into the society.
“Muslim Community appreciates all your efforts in making the society better, May God continue to help you in the discharge of your duties effectively”, Sanni said.
Alhaji Sanni admonished on seeking intervention for fine payments for indigent inmates, to fast track their release and reintegration into the society.
MUSCOYS Secretary General, Alhaji Murisiku Siyanbade called on the NCoS Controller to constitute a Stakeholders Interactive Committee, comprising religious organizations, ethnic groups, philanthropists and other critical Stakeholders for better coordination of inmates welfare.
A renowned Comparative Religion preacher, Dr Daud Amoo-Alaga appreciated the accommodating disposition of the NCoS Controller, describing him as an epitome of amiable personality.
One of the MUSCOYS’ delegates, Dr Musa Alongbija called for relocation of the Custodial Centre from Agodi to avoid its negative psychological effects on the public.
According to Dr Alongbija, the relocation of the centre would also go a long way in achieving the quest to decongest the custodial centres and ensure improved living conditions for the inmates.
Oyo State Secretary of NASFAT, Alhaji Aliu Kewulere promised to extend robust monthly intervention programmes to the Oyo Custodial Centre, as the organization currently does for Agodi.
In his response, NCoS State Controller, Mr. Babafemi Jayeoba remarked that the visit by MUSCOYS is timely, appreciating the Community’s constant efforts in making life more comfortable for the inmates.
“I commend your organization for the past interventions such as provision of cow to inmates at custodial facilities, always bringing nutritious food for the inmates during and after Ramadan fasting. Your food was the delight of the inmates”, he stated.
Mr. Jayeoba solicited more generous interventions and synergy with the Muslim Community for successful reintegration into the society and minimize relapse into criminality.
He hinted that efforts are in progress to move a class of inmates to Olomi Custodial Centre, Ibadan.
The Muslim Community of Oyo State’s delegation consists leaders from the various zones and representatives of Ansar-Ud-Deen, NASFAT, FOMWAN, NACOMYO, and other Islamic organizations.
