Oyo Muslim Community Tasks NIS On Effective Collaboration With Relevant Stakeholders

The Muslim Community of Oyo State, MUSCOYS , has called on the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Oyo State Command to partner relevant community-based, faith-based organizations and community leaders for effective discharge of its statutory functions.
MUSCOYS Chairman, Alhaji Kunle Sanni, represented by the MUSCOYS Vice Chairman 1, Oke-Ogun, Alhaji (Barr.) Tajudeen Adeniji made the call while leading the 17-man delegation on a courtesy visit to the Comptroller, NIS, Oyo State Command and , Mr. Joseph Dada and management team on Tuesday in Ibadan.
Alhaji Sanni, who hinted that it is the passionate desire of MUSCOYS to collaborate with the Immigration Service towards averting influx of illegal immigrants, curb the use of minor for slavery and prostitution, said the menace required synergy with government to nip it in the bud.
According to Alhaji Sanni, “to ensure more success in NIS tasks such as border control and surveillance, human trafficking, we urge that the service to work together with relevant stakeholders including religious organizations and community leaders”.
MUSCOYS Chairman equally recommended the formation of a Stakeholders Forum, consisting of all religions and ethnic groupings to be meeting at the behest of the Comptroller on agreed period of time.
He promised MUSCOYS continous support for the service and pray for successful performance for the Comptroller.
A member of the delegation, who is the Chairman, Muslim Association of Nigeria, MAN, Oyo State, Alhaji Abdurahman Abdulganiy, tasked the NIS on sensitizing Nigerians on how to do profiling of non-Nigerian housemaid, while the Chairman, Political Awareness Group, PAG, Dr Lukman Fasasi urged the Service to do more about neighbourhood security vis-a-vis migrants.
In his contribution, Dr Musa Alongbija requested collaboration of Non-governmental organizations, NGOs with the NIS on how to fast track the process of getting visa for foreigners coming to Nigeria for official engagements.
A renowned Comparative Religion preacher, Dr Daud Amoo-Alaga, emphasized the need for improved relationship with the grassroots.
In his remarks, the Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Oyo State Command, Mr. Joseph Dada, who noted that the service is not averse to Nigerians seeking greener pastures abroad, called on prospective emigrants to do so legally in order to avoid casting aspersions on the nation.
Mr. Dada stressed that tackling the menace of human trafficking is of passionate interest to the NIS Comptroller-General, Mrs Kemi Nandap, sought for stakeholders assistance, especially provision of verifiable information.
“If you know any route where people are being trafficked into Nigeria, give us information; I can assure you of confidentiality. Information enhances productivity”, Dada said.
He hinted that NIS Anti-Smuggling of Migrants section is working round the clock to prosecute traffickers of minors.
Mr. Dada said the advice on more grassroots engagement and collaboration is taken in good faith, promising to create a stronger synergy with community-based organizations.
In an addendum, the Deputy Comptroller Immigration, DCI, Mr. Adekunle Ige, disclosed that production of pilgrimage passport has become very seamless, urging intending pilgrims to give early notification and provide necessary documents such as NIN, Certificate of Origin and Birth Certificate/Declaration of Age to receive their passport within a week.
