Oyo Sports Commissioner tasks Athletes on Excellent
As part of the preparation for the forthcoming 8th edition of the National Youth Games, the Federal Ministry of Sports Development has scheduled the Southwest Zonal Elimination Ball Games for Thursday 29th to Friday 30th August, 2024 at Osogbo in Osun State.
The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Miss Wasilat Adegoke dropped this hint today at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The Commissioner disclosed further that over Two Hundred Athletes from Oyo State will participate in the Competition, adding that other states that will participate include, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti.
She explained that the team games that are open for competitions are Volleyball, Basketball, Handball, Football, Beach Volleyball, Hockey, Cricket and Rugby.
The Commissioner stated further that young Nigerians aged 15 and below are eligible to participate in the National Youth Games.
She noted that the goal is to engage the growing Youth population of the Nation meaningfully, providing a pathway for their career in Sports diverting them from social vices and ultimately fostering a robust pool of talented young Athletes for the future of Nation’s Sports.
While addressing the Athletes during their training sessions, the Commissioner admonished them to shun all vices and adhere strictly to the rules of their various Sports, stressing that they should intensify their efforts to secure first position that will qualify them for participation at the National Youth Games (NYG) that is slated to hold in Asaba from 9th to 19th September, 2024.
So far, over Eight Hundred and Ninety Athletes across the Southwestern States of Nigeria will converge in Osogbo for the Zonal Elimination Ball Games Competition.
