OYO SWAN APPLAUDS SHOOTING STARS PERFORMANCE, HAILS GOV. MAKINDE FOR CONTINUED SUPPORT
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Oyo State Chapter, has showered encomiums on players, coaching crew and management of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan for a job well done in the just concluded league season.
Oyo SWAN Chairman, Mr Ayomiku Ajibola in a press statement released to the public by the Association’s Secretary, Mr Boluwaji Ogunmola, noted that even though Oluyole Warriors narrowly missed continental ticket at the last moment, the team’s performance is highly commendable.
Mr Ajibola, while assessing the Shooting Stars performance at the 2023/24 season, stressed that this is the team’s best performance in the last 25 years.
Recall that the Shooting Stars Sports Club last won the domestic league in 1998 and represented the country in African continental competition in 1999.
However, the club has since then been recording dismal performances in all competitions.
“With Shooting Stars either shuttling between NPFL and NNL or gasping for breath at the relegation zone of the elite division of Nigerian League in the last two decades, nobody ever imagined that Oluyole Warriors will occupy the fourth position on the final league table”, Oyo SWAN Chairman said.
The Oluyole Warriors also set a remarkable record by winning all its home games without conceding any goal throughout the second stanza of the league.
Mr Ajibola attributed the commendable performance of the Shooting Stars Sports Club to the technical excellence of Coach Gbenga Ogunbote, the sound management skills of its Chairman, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan and massive supports that the team enjoyed from the State’s Sports loving Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde.
He then praised all stakeholders, including the club’s supporters, who contributed to the good outing of 3SC at the outgone league season.
Oyo SWAN Chairman further advised the management of 3SC, which is a household name among soccer fans in Nigeria and had blazed the trail for the country, not relent in its revival and restoration of its lost glory.
“The good performance of 3SC this season should not only be continued but also improved upon in the coming seasons. All efforts must therefore be made to retain the performing Coach, Gbenga Ogunbote and the club’s best players to sustain the present tempo. Millions of 3SC supporters all over the world desire to see their darling club return to its former pride of place”, Ajibola posited.
Oyo SWAN Chairman assured that sports journalists in the state would continue to work for the progress of the club and the development of sports in Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.
