Borno govt warns residents against illegal refuse dumping

Borno State Government has issued a stern warning to residents to desist from dumping refuse on drainages, saying culprits will be made to face the full extent of the law .

Commissioner for Environment in the state , Engr Emet Koise , gave the warning on Saturday while monitoring the compliance of residents to monthly sanitization exercise in the state alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr.Juliana Bitrus .

Engr .Emet expressed delight in the turnout of residents for the exercise and urged them to continually support the sanitation drive of the government aimed at ensuring a clean and healthy environment for citizens and residents.

He hinted that the government will not relent in its efforts in making the state more habitable for all as he assured that necessary measures will be put in place to ensure total compliance with sanitization regulations by residents of the state.

Collaborating the commissioner for Environment, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr.Juliana Bitrus , reiterated government’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.

The General Manager , Borno State Environmental Protection Agency (BOSEPA), Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman, noted that the agency will intensify efforts on enforcement for total compliance, adding that defaulters will not be spared but prosecuted without hesitation.

The Executive Chairman of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Tijjani Umar Ali, appealed to residents to cooperate with the sanitation team and maintain a clean environment.

Sanitization working tools were donated to residents by government official as been promised during last month’s sanitization exercise.
