Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has officially announced his interest to via for presidential seat in the 2027 General Elections.
The announcement was pronounced on Thursday following his alignment with the Allied Peoples’ Movement at a mega rally held in Ibadan.

Rather than presenting his declaration as a personal quest for power, the Oyo State governor framed it as part of a larger movement aimed at “resetting Nigeria” through political and economic restructuring.
Makinde described the collation as a “grand alliance” designed to challenge the ruling establishment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Addressing his supporters ,Makinde argued that worsening economic conditions and governance challenges have made it necessary for opposition parties to unite under a stronger platform.
According to him, Nigerians must move beyond political apathy and become active participants in shaping the country’s future.
“The time to reset Nigeria is now,” the governor told the crowd, signaling what may become the central theme of his emerging presidential campaign.
Political observers see the alliance as more than symbolic. By bringing opposition structures together early, Makinde appears to be positioning himself as a key coalition builder capable of mobilizing support beyond regional politics.
The proposed partnership is expected to field candidates across multiple levels of government, including governorship, National Assembly, state assembly, and presidential contests.
Makinde’s declaration now adds another layer to what is already shaping into a highly competitive 2027 political landscape, with conversations around opposition unity, restructuring, and economic reform likely to dominate national debate in the coming months.
