NAHCON chairman expresses concern over staff allowances

says situation will improve

The National Hajj Commission (NAHCON), has attributed its decision to suspend the payment of certain allowances cum stipends for 2024 Hajj Operations to its staff to the current financial downturn.

The NAHCON Chairman, Malam Jalal Arabi , said this during a zoom meeting with staffers of the Commission who were on offshore assignment.

He expressed concern over the challenging Situation the Commission finds itself, saying the situation made NAHCON to request for medical personnel to work for the Commission as volunteers .

He noted that the decision did not affect NAHCON staffers alone as some Allowances of all operational committee members , such as the media , Ulama, security and other stakeholders remain affected due to budgetary limitations.

The NAHCON boss appreciated his staff for their dedication and commitment as he also solicited continued support and cooperation of concerned individuals.

“Financial downturn that impacted many aspects of the 2024 Hajj operations did not leave out the payment of NAHCON staff stipend for the Hajj operations. The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) regrets the situation knowing how exerting Hajj operations are to staff and their families. Due to these financial constraints, certain allowances peculiar to NAHCON staff will remain suspended for now “

“The Commission remains hopeful that as conditions improve, staff allowances may be reassessed even if it were a minimal increase. However, this time around, staff will be given the option of returning to Nigeria after putting 21 days of service if they opt to return”
