The Oyo State Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, has unveiled 250 uniforms donated by GZI for environmental sweepers across the state, as part of efforts to improve their safety, visibility and efficiency in the discharge of their duties.
Unveiling the uniforms at the Ministry premises, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, said it was pertinent for the sweepers, who are engaged as ad-hoc staff, to know that the government recognises and appreciates their contributions to maintaining a clean and healthy environment across the state.
He noted that, in addition to the commitment of the present administration to their welfare, they now also receive their salaries alongside civil servants in the state on the 25th of every month.
He assured them that the government would continue to explore additional welfare benefits to improve their working conditions.
Aderinto explained that the uniforms, which are embedded with reflective materials, were specifically designed to enhance the safety and visibility of the sweepers, particularly while working along roads and other busy areas.
While noting that the goal was for each sweeper to have a uniform for every working day, Engr. Aderinto urged them to wear the uniforms properly and remain committed to their responsibilities, assuring them of the government’s continued support and recognition of their efforts.
Speaking on behalf of GZI, Mr. Victor Oyejide said the donation was part of the organisation’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and improve the welfare and safety of those working to keep communities clean.
He said the organisation was pleased to partner with the state government in providing the uniforms and expressed hope that the gesture would further motivate the sweepers in the discharge of their duties.
The Commissioner appreciated GZI for the gesture, noting that the support would complement the efforts of the Oyo State Government in promoting a cleaner, safer and more sustainable environment, while calling on other well meaning entities willing to partner with the government in the area of environment to contact the Ministry.
