Rehoboth Football Academy Wins GSM Under 20 Football League
as Organizers honor distinguished personalities
Rehoboth Football Academy of Ibadan have emerged champions of the 2024 Oyo State GSM under 20 football league with a 3-1 victory over AFRAS Football Club of Iseyin.
The final of the league organized by the Oyo State Football Association in collaboration with Peculiar Ultimate Concerned Limited was decided on Monday at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The event had in attendance, Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports ,Hon .Wasilat. Adegoke, represented by the Director of Sports Facility in Youth and Sports Ministry, Mr Raheem Fatai , Ex internationals , Mutiu Adepoju, Dr. Felix Owolabi, Chairman, Shooting Stars Sports Club, Hon . Babatunde Olaniyan Akoro amongst others.
Kareem Basit scored hat- trick for Rehoboth Academy, while Godwin Thomas pulled one back for AFRAS FC in the second stanza of the thrilling encounter.
Muhibbat Football Club, Iseyin also beat Ana Football Academy, Ibadan 2-1 to emerge third .
In a chat with journalists, the Chairman, Oyo State Football Association, Alakinyele of Akinyele , His Royal Highness, Oba ( Dr) James Oluyemi Odeniran, said the championship was organized to discover hidden talents in the state and nurture them to stardom.
He noted that a committee is in place to monitor the progress of the players identified at the tourney with a view to rendering the necessary supports.
While enumerating the achievements of the Oyo State Football Association in the outgoing year, Oba( Dr) Odeniran revealed that the association would focus more in developing the game at the grassroots in 2025.
The Champion, Rehoboth Football Academy, rewarded with the sum of # 500,000, and a big trophy , Runner’s Up went home with #300,000 , Third place got #200,000 while fourth position was also appreciated with the sum of #50,000.
Highlights of the event were presentation of medals and awards to distinguished personalities as well as Best Goalkeeper, Highest Goal Scorer and Best Referee awards to deserved individuals.
