Super Eagles Beat Benin Republic In AFCON Qualifiers Opener

Super Eagles of Nigeria put up a sterling performance on Saturday to defeat Benin Republic 3-0 in the opening game of the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers .

The game was played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Ademola Lookman gave Coach Augustine Eguavoen led squad the lead in the additional minutes of the first half.

Victor Osimhen came in from the bench for Boniface in the second half and changed the pace of the game.

He took advantage of an assist from Wilfred Ndidi in the 78th minute to increase the tally for the Eagles .

Ademola Lookman made it 3-0 in the 83rd minute and earned Nigeria a win in their first game of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Super Eagles’ win over Benin Republic came less than three months after Gernot Rohr’s team beat Nigeria 2-1 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Nigeria will face Rwanda on September 10 in the AFCON qualifiers .
