Veteran Actor, Baba Wande breaks silence on withdrawal from acting
Veteran Yoruba actor, Kareem Adepoju, popularly known as Baba Wande, has opened up about his decision to withdraw from acting, saying inadequate payment remains the primary reason.
In a recent interview with Kunle Afod, posted on the official YouTube channel of Kunleafod TV, Baba Wande explained that he was once offered a meager sum of seventy thousand naira to work on two movie locations in two different states.
The veteran actor found the offer not only insulting but also unsustainable given the current economic situation in Nigeria, especially with the rising cost of living.
“I don’t go to movie locations anymore because the money they are offering is not encouraging at all. “I was offered a role in two states with a payment of 70,000 naira. There is no way I can take that amount, especially with the current situation of the country, considering the price of fuel at the moment.”
Baba Wande emphasized that his decision to leave acting was driven by the lack of fair compensation for the work required. He expressed his dissatisfaction with how actors are undervalued in the industry.
He noted that he would consider taking on a role again if the offer align with the value of his work and the effort involved.
His statement highlights a broader issue in the Nigerian film industry, where veteran actors often face financial challenges and inadequate compensation despite their years of experience and contributions to the industry.
