Excitement As Osun Intercollegiate Games 2024 Kicks off

The much -anticipated Osun Intercollegiate Games 2024 kicked off on Wednesday at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Sports Complex , Ile – Ife .

The opening ceremony featured athletic displays, football matches, tug-of-war amongst others.

In football, Kings University, Ode Omu lost to Osun State College of Health Technology, Esa-Oke by four goals to one .

Obafemi Awolowo University secured a 2-0 victory over Oduduwa University in the second match of the day.

In the tug-of-war , Oduduwa University , defeated Obafemi Awolowo University, 2-0 in a nail-biting contest to advance to the next round.

In athletics, various teams competed fiercely in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 4x100m relay heats, with both male and female athletes leaving spectators in awe of their speed and determination.

The finalists for these categories are to compete for honours in the final day.

Actions continue today at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, second venue of the games .

Speaking, Osun State, Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Special Needs, Mr. Layi Adesiyan, praised the organizers for their commitment to promoting collaboration among tertiary institutions.

“This competition is more than just sports; it’s about unity, discipline, and showcasing the immense talent within our institutions,”

Similarly, the Permanent Secretary , Ministry of Education, Osun State, Mr. Muritala Jimoh, highlighted the integral relationship between education and sports. “Both are tools for holistic development. This initiative will undoubtedly encourage students to excel both in academics and athletics,” he stated.

The games is scheduled to hold from November 20th to 4th December, 2024 .
