Oyo State Acting Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, has urged the participants at the ongoing CL4STEM workshop to take advantage of the training and double their effort towards the teaching and learning of science and mathematics subjects in secondary schools.

The acting governor, who spoke through the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu at the opening of a 3-day workshop for fifty selected science teachers held at the Government College, Ibadan, said the project was aimed at developing the capacity of the secondary school teachers in mathematics and science subjects.

Lawal explained that the initiative would make the whole process easier and motivate the students to key into learning science related subjects.

He stated that effective and efficient use of technology, as well as promotion of science remains the major drive towards development of any nation, affirming that CL4STEM project is very timely and a welcome development.

In his remarks, the Project Global Leader, Prof Nuhu Obaje, said the project was to engage technology to make teaching delivery global and the environment more inclusive.

He stated that Oyo State is the first state in Nigeria to adopt and adapt the innovation for innovative training of their teachers, adding that the project involves knowledge transfer of Connected Learning Initiatives (CLIx) which is an online design lab course aimed at producing more graduates of science and technology.

Prof Obaje explained that the project is an ICT-driven technology that is expected to reach remote areas where schools might not be found.

“The project CL4STEM aims to pilot an innovation for building the capacities of teachers in junior and middle Secondary Schools in Science and Mathematics to foster higher-order teaching with inclusion and equity in their classrooms, and to research its effectiveness and potential scaling.

The results of the piloted CLASTEM project in project countries regarding teacher’s instructional practices reveal a shift from the traditional and assessment practices embedded in the CLASTEM modules”.

Participants at the occasion expressed gratitude to the Oyo State government, saying that the CL4STEM Project is indeed timely as it will go a long way in helping the teachers to teach their subjects effectively
